Brand Motarasu Brand Motarasu MOTARASU was founded in Denmark in 2019 by Mikkel Zebitz. Like many other Danes before him, Mikkel was inspired by the distinct Japanese design and aesthetics. But where classic Danish design icons as well as contemporary designers to a wide extent merely have let Japan act as an inspiration, Mikkel wanted to change this – “motarasu” means “to change” in Japanese – by uniting the designers of the two nations to create contemporary design together.Art and nature are the key elements in all of MOTARASU designs and the end-result are poetic, tactile and functional objects. MOTARASU works out of the showroom in Copenhagen with private clients, architects, galleries, and high-end retailers internationally.

RON Pendant

Toshiyuki Tani — Motarasu

The RON pendant combines the bamboo craftsmanship of the artist with the softness and warmth of the paper shade. A unique feature is that the paper shade can be turned upside down and change the expression of the lamp. Often paper lamps are constructed with bamboo or wire, but for the RON pendant the Japanese paper is instead wrapped around PET resin and starchy glue to let light through and reduce the shadow of the paper itself.
