CH621 | Swivel Chair

With an almost balletic stance, the CH621 Swivel Chair is an elegant balance of precise ergonomics and modern aesthetics. Throughout Hans J. Wegner’s prolific career designing over 500 chairs, only a select few were swivel chairs, making the CH621 a rare and coveted collector’s item. Aside from his deep appreciation of wood and traditional carpentry that shaped his early designs, Wegner also loved to explore metal work, finding ways to seamlessly merge organic and human-made materials into his sculptural, organic designs. Created in 1948, the CH621 Swivel Chair conveys a contemporary aesthetic that belies the 75 years since its original release. As one of Denmark’s first mid-century modern designers to recognise the importance of ergonomics, Wegner collaborated with doctors and physiologists to determine the ideal sitting posture and lumbar support for supreme comfort.
